Is it supposed to be a form of entertainment?
Gambling is supposed to be a form of entertainment that may or may not have prizes for the winners. It goes back hundreds, if not thousands of years and will probably be around in some form or fashion that many years from now. However, no one knows for sure why people like games of chance or even skill that are considered gambling. There are many theories or ideas and some of those are listed below.
Everyone likes to win at something. It doesn’t matter if it’s a free ice cream won from a soda lid or the jackpot at the blackjack table, everyone likes to win. When you win at games you wager on, you may get a rush or high that causes you to feel good and you like that you so you continue to gamble to get that high you feel when you win.
Sometimes life is hard and you need to get away from it all. You can lose yourself in a game of cards or at the slot machines and simply not think about anything while you play. This is okay as long as you are not using gambling as an escape from life all the time and you start to neglect your real life. Everyone needs a break occasionally; however, you have to face your problems in life and gambling won’t help you with that.
Some people treat gambling as a profession, particularly poker professionals who play the circuit. You can win money gambling and some people become skilled enough to make a living playing poker; however, you have to understand that this is not everybody and the number of people who can sustain an income based on gambling is not very high. If you like to play games for money and you win occasionally, consider it a gift and nothing more. Don’t become fascinated with winning and let it take you down a bad path that ends in addiction.
There are many reasons people like to gamble and these are just a few of them. The main thing to remember is not why people like to gamble but that if you aren’t aware of your own habits you could become addicted and have a problem.
i like to gamble simply to relieve tension after a long day at work. i don’t view it as a problem but i do make sure i don’t spend all of my money in the casino.
